The Trinity Presbyterian School Board of Trustees appointed Mr. Merle Henkel as Interim Head of School on January 15.
Mr. Henkel assumed his new role as Interim Head of School after Dr. Kerry Palmer accepted the position of Associate Dean of the College of Education at his alma mater, Troy University. Mr. Henkel presently serves as the Director of Finance and Operations, a position he has held since July 2018. He holds a Bachelor of Science degree from Wake Forest University, and an MBA from the Darden School of Business at The University of Virginia. Prior to his appointment at Trinity, Mr. Henkel served as Director of Business and Operations at The Gregory School in Tucson, Arizona, and served as Director of Business and Interim Head of School at Massanutten Academy in Virginia. Before working in the private school world, he had a 28-year career in commercial banking, serving as the CEO of two community banks in Virginia. Additionally, Mr. Henkel served as Chairman of the Board for both the National Kidney Foundation of Virginia, the Make-A-Wish Foundation of Virginia and on the Board of the Alumni Association at Wake Forest. He chaired the annual fund campaign for St. Christopher’s School in Richmond, and chaired the Regional Capital Campaign for Wake Forest University. Mr. Henkel has two sons who attended private school in Richmond, Virginia.
Mr. Henkel is looking forward to serving as Interim Head of School at Trinity and will be following through with the initiatives planned under the 2019-20 budget and Strategic Plan adopted in 2017.
