Track and Field Competes at State!

Sixteen members of the Track team competed at the 94th State Track Meet in Gulf Shores, Alabama. The highlights from the meet are: Senior Amanda Meadows claimed the bronze medal in the long jump and placed 5th in the 300 meter hurdles and setting a personal record in the 100 meter hurdles. Sophomore Chandler Ford placed 4th in the 300 meter hurdles while setting a new school and personal record of 47.93 and also placed 5th in the 100 meter hurdles. Senior Mackenzie Legrand finished 11th in the 1600 and 9th in the 3200. She holds the school records in the 800 and 3200 meter races. The 4X400 relay team of Sarah Clay Norris, Ansley Claire Addison, Ann Caden Oliver and Lauren French came in 19th place. The girls team came in 12th place out of 32 teams that scored.

Freshman Jay Tymes set a personal record in 200 meter dash. Seventh grader Timothy Hornsby ran the 1600 meter run and came in 22nd place. Sophomore Gray Rutland came in 9th place in the 800 meter run while setting a personal record and Senior Dawson Oliver came in 8th place in the 800 meter run. The 4x400 relay team of Tim Hornsby, Mat Mathison, Zane Springer and Henry Britton came in 22nd place with a time of 3:58. The 4x800 relay team of Dawson Oliver, Gray Rutland, Wells Rutland and Charlie Lott ran an all out heart pounding race to claim a silver medal and to break their own school record. The boys team came in 19th place out of 38 teams that scored.

Track and Field Qualifies for State!
The Track and Field Team had 23 athletes compete in the 4A Section 1 meet this past weekend in Brewton, Alabama. Sixteen team members qualified for the State meet. The 16 team members are Amanda Meadows, Chandler Ford, Mackenzie Legrand, Sarah Clay Norris, Lauren French, Ann Caden Oliver, Ansley Claire Addison, Dawson Oliver, Wells Rutland, Henry Britton, Charlie Lott, Zane Springer, Gray Rutland, Mat Mathison, Jay Tymes and Timothy Hornsby. The State meet is Thursday, May 3 - Saturday, May 5 in Gulf Shores. 

Sectionals podium finishes: Gray Rutland — 3rdplace in 800 meter run, Chandler Ford — 2ndplace in 100 meter hurdles, Charlie Lott – 1st place in 1600 and 3200; Boys 4X800 team of Lott, Gray Rutland, Dawson Oliver and Wells Rutland – 1stplace.

The boys 4X800 team set a new school record. Mackenzie Legrand set a new school record in the 3200 and Chandler Ford set a new school record in 100 meter hurdles.

Those setting personal records were Wells Rutland (3200), Mackenzie Legrand (3200 & 1600), Sarah Clay Norris (1600 & 3200), Carter Grice (Shot), Eli Naugher (Javelin), Chandler Ford (100 meter hurdles), Zane Springer (400 meter), Josh Smith (400 meter), Gray Rutland (800 meter), Timothy Hornsby (1600 & 3200), and Amanda Meadows (100 meter hurdles & Long Jump).
